ARTISTS THOUGHTS
From the Belonging project. The title of this painting was taken from a conversation with Rick Berry about how when we take something from the land that we create a void, and what are we going to fill that void with in return. Belonging was project about how people find a since of belonging through the land. The lines you see are taken from a gold mine shaft found on the model at the Empire Mine History Museum. The grey outline is the boundary lines of Nevada County. A people we often seek power through external sources rather than going within.
